Social and Economic Technology - 2.1. Description for the non technical worker.

How should you be able to apply for a job?

Presumably you can work a television, presumably you can work a telephone. A Secotek computer in its basic form would probably have cost you less than a television, and be just as easy to plug in and switch on. Alternatively you may use one at a telecottage, or at a job centre. Once started the computer will offer you a menu of things you might like to do, and getting to the jobs section will be easily. You may either answer a series of questions to create a "CV", or (during working hours) request to speak (and see) a person at a "job centre" in order to help you. Of course, if you are able and you prefer, you may use an editor to create a CV from scratch.

Now you have created your CV, you are ready to view a wide variety of "job vacancies", or else you use the computer itself to match you to a suitable job. At present you could not consider a considerable number of potentially available jobs because there would be too much commuting or you would would have to make an undesirable house move. Maybe, if you are young, you cannot really afford the `wheels' to make a commute anyway, or job transport would eat up a high proportion of the potential money earnt! One of the things about Secotek is that a wide variety of jobs like that now become available to you and be done right in your village or even home. This has advantages to the prospective employee as well as you! Despite the number of jobs available being correspondingly large, if you do not like any of the jobs on offer, you may leave your potential application open to be matched to a suitable prospective employer when he creates a suitable job. Otherwise you apply for a job by selecting it with a keystroke or a mouse.

If your prospective employer likes your application, he arranges an interview with you. This will not necessarily mean going to see him directly, the "Secotek" computer is fully equipped to act as a teleconference terminal as easy to operate as a telephone. An application refusal will be equally easily noted on the computer should the prospective employer make such a decision.
