Social and Economic Technology - 2.3. Description for the non technical worker.
Working with the Technology
Secotek can enable many jobs that currently require commuting to a central office to be done in the rural countryside without too loss of social interaction and without modifying how it is done at present. Some types of work lend themselves to be done more effectively through Secotek than my more conventional means. In this example a sales assistant of brown and white goods is training a new trainee applicant who has applied and been accepted for a work placement through Secotek.
The sales assistant would have been trained to be familiar with a selection of the available goods. He/she will actually have "display samples" of each item for which he/she is responsible. Should somebody telephone or click a "talk to someone" button on an an Internet Web Browser, the potential customer could be talking to the sales assistant. The new employee will hear the conversation too, it is all part of training. Detailed answers will be given to questions asked about the goods, and if the questioner is from the Web, the potential customer may see verbal answers backed up with live pictures taken from angles requested. E.g. a butter dish would be shown out of a refrigerator, or the connectors shown on the back of a hi-fi. If asked, a credit card order would be accepted, and the warehouse system actuated to deliver goods. Orders placed by any other means, e.g. post, would be dealt with in a similar way.
The supervisor could also be telecottage or home based, or even be in the business premise at his will. It would make little difference really.
The progress of the new employee from there would be quite natural. When the supervisor considers he/she is ready, they will be talking to customers. Then, upon promotion, they will receive the software that actually works the warehouse etc. They will have all the support they need to make it run properly.
